Posted it here coz someone wants to read it :p here it goes!
First and foremost, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to the Rotarians who had sponsored me to IRYLA. If it’s not for their heart of gold, I wouldn’t have the chance to go to IRYLA. I can assure you that letting me and sponsored me to go to IRYLA will not be a waste as I will always remember what the camp had taught me. And I have to admit that, it was the best camp I had been so far. It was a chance of a lifetime as I get the chance to go to a camp where it’s outside my states.
It was my first time going to Johor Bahru and I really was looking forward to go to the camp back then. I felt ecstatic the moment my teacher chose me to go to the camp. I got to admit that my first thought of going to the camp was to meet a bunch of new friends but then again, not only that I met a lot of new friends from different states, I also got the chance to listen to the speakers who had been invited to give a talk during the camp.
One of the speakers really inspired me a lot. As he never give up no matter how hard life can be and always follow your dream because life is like a roller coaster. It has its ups and downs but it’s your choice to either scream or enjoy the ride. All you have to do is just keep believing on yourself and be positive. I find it’s hard to believe in yourself on whatever you are doing but one of my team mates proved me wrong during the showering session whereby you and your team mates had to each give a positive remark. I can’t remember who said that and the exact word, but one of them said you have to be confident yourself because we all believe in you, so why can’t you? Those short and sweet sentences had really touched my heart.
They always say save the best for the last. The last talk was really amazing, superb amazing to be exact. “P.A.D.S”. These four simple words really can change your life if you practise it in your life every day. Those four different words stand for different meaning. “P” stands for passion while “A” stands for aim where as “D” and “S” stand for determination and service. The speaker told us different stories on each different letter. All of the stories he told us really motivate me more to face all sorts of difficulties. And I already determined to become a whole lot better person than my previous one. I have learnt that you have to start turning your passion into action and I believe that when you’re doing something that you truly have intense passion, you’ll never give up. Instead, you’ll keep doing it over and over again because you just simply love doing it and energetic when doing it.
What is teamwork? Teamwork is action performed by a team towards a common goal. I was in Red team 1. We did pretty well in every task that was given. We did all of the activities together from the 1st day till the last day of the camp. Some of the activities were quite tough but we finally did it in the end. I could not forget all the laughter that we had during the entire camp. It was the kind of team where you can really depend on your team mates, which are the reason why I love my team. All our hard work paid off in the end. I actually learnt a lot from each of my team mates. Just being an observant. I hope I can have the same team work which I had before in the next camp where I’m going.
The best part about the camp is mostly because I got the chance to meet the Cambodians. Not the fact that I never meet one but they somehow really inspired me. These words come straight from my heart. They even shared some of their life stories which touched most of our hearts in the camp. They taught me how to persevere through life’s obstacles. Be grateful for what everything we have because there are some people are just not lucky as you.
I dislike nothing about the camp except the part where we have to leave. It was really sad for all of us as it will be hard for us to meet again since we all came from different states. This camp had really taught me a lot; no words can describe how I really feel now. I hope there will be more chances like this in future. Lastly, I would like to say a big huge thank you to the Rotarians again who sponsored me to go to IRYLA.
I would like to end my report with a quote about what I had learnt from this camp by Maya Angelou, God put the rainbow in the clouds, not just in the sky. It is wise to realize we already have rainbows in our clouds, or we wouldn't be here. If the rainbow is in the clouds, then in the worst of time, there is the possibility of seeing hope. We can say "I can be a rainbow in the cloud for someone yet to be."
